It is easiest and cheapest to store hay and straw outdoors, protected by plastic sheeting or agro-fibre. However, it is difficult to avoid losses due to dampness, fungus and blowing away which affects the economics of a dairy farm. The solution is hay storage, traditionally known as a barn. There are many halls available on the market for agriculture based on different construction solutions. Prominent among these are the long-lasting marquee halls with their lightweight and robust aluminium profiles, which in the public mind function more as temporary structures.
It is worth realising that these can be structures designed for up to 50 years of use with a maximum span of 60m and adapted to local wind and snow loads.
